Uttarakhand is rich in wildlife and biodiversity, with a wide variety of mammals, birds, reptiles and other species found across its forests, protected areas and diverse ecosystems. Wildlife conservation is therefore an important component of forest and environmental management in the State. Effective wildlife management focuses on protecting natural habitats, conserving biodiversity and maintaining a healthy balance between wildlife and surrounding ecosystems.

Wildlife Management includes activities such as protection and improvement of wildlife habitats, management of water sources, improvement of grasslands and other habitat areas, wildlife monitoring, prevention of poaching and illegal activities, mitigation of human-wildlife conflict, and strengthening of infrastructure and capacity for wildlife protection.

State CAMPA supports wildlife conservation and habitat management as an important part of its activities. CAMPA funds can be utilised for approved activities related to wildlife habitat improvement, biodiversity conservation, protection of wildlife and strengthening of wildlife management infrastructure, in accordance with the applicable provisions and approved plans.

CAMPA-supported activities may include development and improvement of water sources for wildlife, habitat restoration, grassland and meadow management, improvement of wildlife corridors and habitats, strengthening of patrolling and protection infrastructure, procurement of essential equipment, capacity building of frontline staff, and support for monitoring and conservation activities.

Special attention is also given to mitigating human-wildlife conflict, which is an important challenge in many parts of Uttarakhand. Measures such as strengthening rapid response mechanisms, improving awareness among local communities, supporting preventive measures and enhancing coordination between communities and the Forest Department can help reduce conflicts and promote coexistence.

Through these interventions, State CAMPA contributes to strengthening the capacity of the Forest Department for wildlife protection, habitat conservation and biodiversity management. The involvement of local communities, along with scientific management and modern monitoring techniques, further enhances the effectiveness of conservation efforts.

Thus, wildlife management under CAMPA complements the broader objective of forest conservation and ecological restoration, helping protect Uttarakhand's rich biodiversity and ensuring the long-term sustainability of its wildlife habitats and ecosystems.
